Varkala

Wonderful to be able to hold on to each other again!

Soulsucking sundowners with lovely company

The steep path down to one of the most wonderful beaches in Kerala (to be frank we haven't been to any beach in Kerala, but the action you get through the waves and strong currents makes my statement not totally untrue). Some of the steps were easily 0.75 metres high!

Varkala beach... near the helipad built for a Very Important Person to visit the Hindu holy place - near the beach - to never be used again :)

Hermy the
hermit... I
accidentally dropped one of those in the bag of Sarah (while on the beach in
Kanniyakumari). A french volcanoe burst, dropped the bag in a frenzy and started shrieking and running in crazy circles while her arms tried to rid herself of any hermit particles :D

Mei and Tanya experiencing equanimous joy

Chris showing off Kung Fu moves to Carol

Lorena (not the nasal version) and Mick sideways (not his best side)

Carol with the professional shopping assistence of Mei got herself a brandnew purple outfit. Yeah baby, go nozzle some Indian!

Festival for Shiva's birthday

The bearers got into what seemed a religious frenzy.

Temple elephant with cut off ears (probably causing cooling problems). All in all elephants are not treated very nicely in India. Having to stand powerful firecrackers, endless walking on hot asphalt, tight shackles chafing their feet, no or hardly any (mud)baths cool them off. Male elephants periodically get in heat, they become musty, they then produce 20 to 40 times more testosteron which alters their behaviour from "peaceful" to aggresive and unpredictable. And yet these musty elephants are present at festivals too!

Ah, ha, ha, ha,
Stayin' alive.
Stayin' alive

Seas of chips, crunchies, toasties. Stuff baked, fried, roasted. Salty, sweet and sometimes both. Wonderful!

Two guys rythmically chopping vegetable and masala filled doughballs. They made a heck of noise... It's name was Martaba and Mei could not stop eating the stuff :)
Kind of resembled a good nasi.

Hindu's giving offerings to the sea, some of them saw the ocean for the first time and definitely let it show. A little boy almost went berserk, cried and screamed 'till finally his parents let him run up the beach to
safety.

Dead chicken... makes me think of the infamous
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"

Mei hiding from the sun under a boat in a remote fishing village.

Jakob capturing one of his last sunsets in India :(

Us again

The whole gang in restaurent Papaya, all lured there to hear Arican drumming. Which we didn't get... but the evening was cool anyway.

Japanese guy doing all Yoga poses perfectly on the beach. 2 hours in the morning, 2 hours in the evening,
every day! Afterwards he'd play his didgeridoo and attract lots of Indian attention. This time was special though since 2 lifeguards and a patrolling officer stood by and listened to the alien sounds.

A "sex on the beach" followed by a "passage to India" followed by a couple of "long island ice tea"s, etc. all in all too many cocktails...
Mei as always totally and vehemently denied the fact she was
somewhat intoxicated. A second later she stumbled of the walking path :D

Each and every time my body hit the waves of Varkala, it turned me into a giddy happy worriless kid. I was absolutely
LOVIN' it!

Me and Christoph catching another wave...
The guys would easily remain in the water, riding the waves far past sunset.
